In partnership with UNICEF South Sudan, IRC, and the State Ministry of Health (SMOH), WECSS recently carried out a joint field visit to Majok Nyinthiou to assess local health facilities and engage directly with the community. The team visited Majok Nyin-Thiou PHCC and Bakou PHCU, where several critical challenges were identified. These included: A shortage of Oral Polio Vaccines (OPV), High patient dropout rates, Missing batteries for blood pressure machines, Frequent stockouts of essential medicines, Lack of basic equipment in the maternity ward. To address these gaps, the team made the following key recommendations: Recruit a qualified midwife, Fast-track the delivery of essential drugs (Cycle 4), Immediately procure batteries for BP machines. As part of the visit, we also held community meetings with 160 participants including 96 women and 64 men — representing local chiefs, elders, youth, women’s groups, persons with disabilities, and municipal leaders. These sessions focused on key issues such as: Health, Nutrition, Child protection, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), Education, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), Emergency preparedness. Together, we’re committed to improving health services and strengthening community engagement in hard-to-reach areas like Majok Nyinthiou.
